Plage de Bellangenet
In memory of ""Julien Quéré""
Bellangenêt Beach is the largest and is very popular in the summer. An event also marked its history. On the heights of Bellangenêt, an anchor rests facing the sea. That of the "Julien Quéré," a 52-meter trawler from Lorient, which sank in 1995 off Bellangenêt Beach. The wreck lies 28 meters below the surface on a sandy bottom.
The surfers' spot
Kerou Beach is inseparable from surfing. Surfing pioneers appeared in the late 1970s and, to avoid being overrun, kept the spot's existence a secret.
Thanks to the beach's gentle slope, the long waves from the open sea break, and the waves have a tubular shape comparable to those of the Landes. In 10 years, the practice of this sport has exploded. Le Kerou currently welcomes nearly 300 practitioners year-round and 600 in the summer.
Cradle of the seaside resort
Les Grands Sables was the birthplace of the seaside resort of Le Pouldu. The first bathers appeared in the 1850s.
The first two villas were built near the beach around 1875. The first hotel opened in 1887.
It was at this time that painters from the Pont-Aven school stayed at the ""Buvette de la plage"" which greatly contributed to the site's reputation.
